c: teh lyrics on teh poster r taken from teh song “man in the mirror,” by Michael Jackson c: 😢😢 :3 I think this poster wuold actually be a good one to have next to ur dresser/mirror, in ur room 😢🧡 it might be a good visual graphic to have next to ur mirror. “Man in the Mirror.” 🌸🥲 so: this drawing is of a dresser drawer, + a poster (with the lyrics to the song “Man In The Mirror,” on them). –I sketched out a coat,.. so that when the person in the room “turns up the collar on his favorite winter coat,” he’ll “see (envision) the kids in the street, with not enough to eat.” He might think ‘who am I to be blind, pretending not to see their need?” So in other words; the whole room is sort of inspired by or revolving around the lyrics on the green poster. the lyrics to the song ‘man in the mirror,’ by m.j.😢 ok bye, ty😢😣

hello c: the words written on the left-hand side are #lyrics from the #song ‘Dog Days,’ by #indierock band Florence + the Machine. The song I think is kind of an ‘acquired tune’, it’s not immediately catchy, maybe(?). (Just like kombucha or chamomile tea might be an ‘acquired taste,’ to some :3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIXQjSo4GCE ()()()() -I think all songs and all pieces of auditory art (I guess it’s called music, rofl), as well as visual art, performance art, even literary art (like poetry and other condensed forms, and even much prose, non-poetry); all art are open to interpretation as long as you can back up your interpretation with solid supporting evidence. That’s what I understood from Intro to English lit., and etc :3 Even finding certain hidden meanings in the song, or the visual/literary art piece—and even a particular meaning out of the whole piece—is only part of the listening-viewing process. Even if audience interpretation goes beyond what the artist originally intended, it’s ok. —we all see things differently. ‘I didn’t see it like that—this is how I interpeted it’, is good, actually :: it helps to rly show that evryone sees things differntly, and helps to show and showcase (and understand) everyone’s point of view :: thx for reading that part c: 😢 So having said that thinb: heres my interpretation of song ‘Dog Days,’ by indie rock group Florence + the Machine: The song can be about oppression —how oppression is finally over. The song is sung in an imagined utopia, and blissful future :3 *this interpretation of the song is especially plausible in the section/stanza/chorus of the song that is written in this graphic design piece: “The dog days are over—the dog days are done. The horses are coming, so you better run. Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father…” -teh song reminds me of all freedom fighters and evryone who fought and stuff- for a good future, largely free from oppression and stuff 😢 Helen Keller, Malcolm x, mlk, Huey P. Newton, kwame ture, Emma Goldman, Frida Kahlo: anyone and everyone …………… “the horses”: some type of joy or ending of suffering. a saving grace/savior—something (not necessarily religious in nature: not necessarily Christ or any type of god, or higher power)—something that will relieve people. Perhaps it can be a metaphor for justice, itself. Much appreciation and regards and admiration to the YouTuber who created this video, Rav B. -video has over 120,000 views. -it was posted in 2014.. **and, i actually found the photograph from this link: https://flashbak.com/huey-p-newton-and-the-black-panther-party-a-picture-story-13283/ ☮️ I then sort of digitally painted over it, a bit [using sketchbook app—a digital drawing app…). hello :3 pls excuse this very outlandish* story (it’s very ‘out there’): I was actually on a radio show a few years ago (I think three), where I was asked, among other things, a little bit about my feelings on trump’s position on immigrants and immigration.. (I got contacted and asked if I wanted to be on, and stuff like that.. I said yeah :3 it was b.c. the *really nice** radio presenter had seen an essay I wrote for an online magazine, where I talked about being from Sudan, my Afro-arab culture, and so on. I was contacted to talk on his show, a while later .. :3 the reply I gave is written in this graphic design piece ⤴️ -and then after that reply , the interviewer kindly corrected me and said ‘except for native Americans..he (sweetly) said ‘i have Native American blood in me, so I just have to make sure I add that fact (about america).’ #Indigenous blood.. -I was kind of a tiny bit distressed for a while after that interview was ovr, because my schizoaffective disorder + clinical anxiety got in the way of sort of providing a more elaborate answer. But nowadays, I actually pretty much like teh answer, looking back on it 😅. -I sort of wanted to make a visual document (e.g., a drawing, or whatever. graphic design piece…) of that moment – that conversation/that interview. Sometimes your nervousness impedes everything.. In my case, it was schizoaffective disorder + severe generalized anxiety. lol. Anyways I’m still kinda glad I did the interview, and tried to articulate*, as much as possible. Lol, if the interviewer had known I was that messed-up, he probably would have been like ‘don’t do it. hi c: I did this poster (illustrated poster/illustrated graphic) of the poem ‘Harlem Shadows,’ by Claude McKay :3 🥺🥺 This poem is, I think, about the narrator’s frustration and despair at the plight and inhumane condition that blacks are subject to. He uses Harlem as a backdrop to express this despair. He particularly uses the plight of black prostitutes’ – women who simply want to survive and earn a living, but who are victims of the cruelty of life, of society’s treatment of blacks, of poverty, etc. etc. The poem: “I hear the halting footsteps of a lass In Negro Harlem when the night lets fall Its veil. I see the shapes of girls who pass To bend and barter at desire’s call. Ah, little dark girls who in slippered feet Go prowling through the night from street to street! That’s a line from the song :3 This song would make a great activist song, if that’s a proper term.. :3 A song used to inspire and motivate and inform..about the spirit of marginalized people, etc. This song could also serve as an anthem for Dreamers – the people/immigrants brought to this country as youths by their parents/families, as the previous drawing’s description goes into :3 Songs can have various interpretations I think…ur free to imagine them to mean anything you want..especially if ur interpretation or analysis makes very good sense/could actually work/is a good guess at what the song means. P.s this drawing was completed on June 24, 2020 :3 thx😘😘🥺Hi :3 I recently finished this drawing (06/20/2020). Its a drawing of an event- of a speaker & crowd of ppl. The event is about immigration to the United States-how immigrants and immigration are so integral to the American narrative that any negative actions towards immigrants is actually supremely unfounded😞& I actualy wanted this drawing to be more specifically about Dreamers-the young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. by their parents/families, and ‘who know no other home other than the U.S.,’ as we often hear 😢its so bad that they’re targeted for deportation by the government. 😡when this is their home😞. I read an LA Times article today that states that the Supreme Court of the U.S recently rejected the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal the Obama-era order that protected Dreamers from being deported 🙌🏽 “In a striking rebuke to President Trump, the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected his plan to repeal the popular Obama-era order that protected so-called Dreamers, the approximately 700,000 young immigrants who were brought to this country illegally as children.”https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2020-06-18/supreme-court-immigrants-daca-dreamers-trump☮️ I’m glad the Supreme Court did the right thing on this 😭☮️ I drew this drawing as a small dedication/token to Dreamers. The ppl in the background are holding a sign that says ‘Let the river run- let all the Dreamers wake the nation.’ This phrase is taken from the song ‘Let The River Run,’ by Carly Simon. Basically, this song reminds me of Dreamers/children of people who immigrated to this country. I capitalized the D in the word ‘Dreamers,’ in this drawing. Normally, the lyrics of the song actually have the word ‘dreamers’ with a lower-case ‘d.’ The song in its original meaning isn’t actually referring to Dreamers- children of immigrants. It’s referring to ‘dreamers’ – regular ‘dreamers.’ But this song can also have another meaning- that of children of immigrants. In other words it would actualy make complete sense if the song was dedicated to them/was about them. Songs can have various meanings, anyway :p & we as listeners are fully entitled to interpret them any way we like :p So in that spirit, I capitalized the word ‘Dreamers’ in this pic, to have that line refer specifically to the children of immigrants brought to the United States. those* Dreamers. And not ‘dreamers’ in the general usage of the term. Alfred Prufrock’ (poem). –This drawing was completed on Thursday June 11, doha qatar time 😬😞2020. ty😗🧁🥺🧡drawing :3 Completed today, Wednesday June 10, 2020. :3 The idea is that ppl sit underneath that graffiti – underneath that arrow. So, the passers by would see the scene as the graffiti writing referring to whoever is sitting underneath it. As in: ‘this person is down and out, mentally ill, low-prospects, isolated/abandoned, low income.., etc. etc.’ It gives the passers by (especially the rich/high status ones who may be walking/driving by) something to think about. Cuz the reality is: not evrybody is doing well, in life. Some ppl have a lot of problems..and some ppl deal with multiple major problems, actually. Like the person who the graffiti writing is referring to/. 😐 so, such ppl do* exist. And they’re more abundant and numerous than you think. Basically the idea behind this message on the wall is that anybody* can sit there…(near the arrow). And so the writing would be referring to them*, in that case. So it’s sort of an interactive art/graffiti piece, in that people can be part of the message of the graffiti…literally. I.e., you* can be the subject of this graffiti piece. All u have to do is sit (or stand) near the arrow.. And the message of the graffiti piece will ‘turn into’ the message of ‘you having all these characteristics…down and out, low prospects in life, mistreated, etc.’ So it’s not a ‘static’ art/graffiti message, in that the passers by simply look at it, take in the message, think about it, and etc.. Its more of a ‘join in, you can be part of this’ graffiti piece/message. In fact, it actually relies on people in order to be complete, to be a complete/coherent message, etc.. The only people who really can’t sit underneath this graffiti message are well to do/high status people. Cuz: the graffiti message explicitly excludes them. I mean somebody could sit there who is rich or high status, and have the message be directed/pointed at him…but yeah, he’d be lying, and etc. So this is one of those integrity* interactive art pieces. One has to be honest about it, I guess :3 I mean, it’s for downtrodden ppl to have their moment (on the stage), etc… It’s not meant for rich and successful ppl. They have enough stage, spotlight, etc. The whole world revolves around them, actually. Today’s the first day 🎊 I draw an lgbt+ themed drawing every June. It started last year. So yeah, got an art project to do every June, at least 🎉 🎨🍷 I look forward to it all the time..🧁 So, the idea behind this drawing is that: it’s in a college setting/at a college campus, somewhere. the girl is reading a note on a bulletin board, which gives info on statistics regarding trans people. The idea is that she herself is trans…which explains why she looks sad and distressed as she reads through the statistics about the trans community. I think the only way to sense that she is trans is by looking at the book she’s holding- Trans Identity in The 21st Century. 😛 To be honest, I didn’t know how else to get the message across/give a hint that she is trans, herself. But anyway the main idea behind this illustration is that she is trans, which is what makes the bulletin board note so pertinent/poignant and sad. she feels bad about her community, basically 😦 and about herself; her situation as a trans person. ☮️ I think this drawing is sort of somewhat relevant to the police killings that have occurred recently, in the U.S… 😞 black trans women are targeted too, in society.. and actually they’re some of the most vulnerable/marginalized groups in the U.S., and around the world. very sad, and awful. #trans #pride2020. ☮️ *Last year during June, I drew two LGBT drawings…but they were focused on the gay experience. and I had a few other drawings throughout the year that focused on lgbt themes/the general/overall cause. Lastly: I wanted to say that I actually come from pretty traditional Islamic background…so, religion was my main framework, while growing up. It was the main theme, in my home. :3 And um, I actually wasn’t exposed a lot to the LGBt movement, or cause. *I know that a lot of Muslims have had the opposite experience, though – they grew up embracing the LGBT cause and etc. Many are LGBT themselves: they are gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans+ Muslims. And they don’t feel any push back from the religion against their LGBT identity🧡. I think that is wonderful**. 🤩 *I wish I myself had had such a framework while growing up. I mean it would have been way better 😢🙌🏽 would have been 1000% better. I would have had a better understanding of the world, of life, if I had been taught something about lgbt identity, movement, etc. I mean I wouldn’t have had to grow up to be a full-fledged adult and yet not have a frame of reference, frame of mind, that includes everyone*, in its parameters. If you know what I mean..😓 I would have been thinking about everyone*, all this time, when I thought about humanity/people/etc. 😢 I really only saw the world as ‘muslim’ and ‘non-muslim..’ let alone seeing it as a world with different identities, different experiences, and etc. Tbh I didn’t have a good insight or understanding of many* things, when I was younger. Drawing completed Tuesday March 10, 2020. Ty* 🌾😞 abortion takes life 😞 Circumstances necessitate it, but that’s a different subject, altogether. Being poor, without support, without a stable condition in life doesn’t tell you anything about the morality of abortion. It only tells you why one might choose abortion. We should get rid of poverty and homelessness and all social ills, if we are to reduce and eliminate abortion. Emma Goldman was against abortion. As were Fannie Lou Hamer, Mahatma Gandhi, and so many other freedom fighters. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was against it. Also: climate change and population control does make way for abortion. My only issue with that point is: so, if there was no climate catastrophe, and human population was stable, would you (they) then contend that abortion is wrong? Surrounding circumstances may necessitate abortion..but they’re both wrong, I think. There shouldn’t have been any climate catastrophe.. nor should there be any over population. Family planning (I.e. contraception, preventing pregnancy) sounds good to me. Abortion however doesn’t sound good to me. Lastly: I totally** see the pro choice pov. I was pro choice before, and I still see the very strong reasoning of it. It makes perfect sense, actually.. except it kills a human 😦 I don’t have anything against my pro-choice friends. In terms of this drawing: this could have been something different, in truth. It could have just said ‘these are all great ppl – were great fighters.’ I was actually thinking of changing the message to that- of not going with the anti abortion message, and instead going with a freedom fighter message. But, that would have been fairly obvious, I feel. we always know how kahlo, Marx, Goldman and Gandhi were great ppl, and they they changed the world, etc. they were all for justice. So I wanted to give a different perspective in relation to all these freedom fighters. I wanted to juxtapose them in relation to an idea which doesn’t get that much attention or support in popular culture; pro life ideology. & I ultimately wanted to say that if these people had never been born (# consistent life ethic), the world would not be the same. It would be chaotic, in fact. Emotional intelligence, artistic genius, musical aptitude, conflict resolution skills, being gifted verbally/with words. Etc. But I often feel that societies respect certain types of intelligences way more than others. Things like being good at math, science, the social science fields, etc are often held up, more. *But as the famous line from ‘Dead Poets’ Society’ goes: “…Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! Sanders’ speech) are holding a banner that says: ‘Bernie Sanders–You are marching band, you are The People…You are a helping hand-you are a hero’. So again, the idea of people–the marginalized and mistreated majority of us–is present in the drawing (hopefully). *The words on the banner that the people in the audience are holding (“You are a marching band…”) are actually lyrics from the song “The World’s Greatest,” by R. Eliot.** -I feel that this phrase/excerpt from the poem is really relatable to everyone; everyone has difficulty expressing themselves, sometimes. (The girl in the drawing definitely can relate to that, as well: she is actually crying out of frustration and sadness at not being able to articulate/express what she means. (She is talking to someone who is not visible, in the drawing.) **last thing: I have a hunch that this feeling (of not being able to articulate what you mean) is often more exaggerated in people with mental illnesses… Because: a lot of mental illnesses often cause cognitive difficulties in the sufferers, like difficulty in organizing thoughts…racing thoughts…and concentration issues. -I can personally completely attest to that: my schizoaffective disorder certainly hinders a lot of my cognition, I am pretty certain. 😣 But, at the same time, there is a kind of humor and lightness in all this as well, I think. Because: it’s like our thoughts are in limbo, kind of floating above us, but just not intelligible to anyone in the vicinity. It’s pathetic, but there’s some humor in there, as well. (Like: the person who you’re talking to in the conversation doesn’t know about your problem, when it comes to talking/articulating. -the whole scenario a bit funny, in that way. (used to call it ‘excessively poofy and frizzy and bushy,’ and all the rest.) these days, i heard there was a story in the media about a young girl getting in trouble (even suspended, I think?!) for wearing her natural hair to school (unbraided, no pony-tail or pig-tail…just “down,” as we say.) But, hold on! if all the other girls get to wear their* hair down, why couldn’t she? if u ask me, that was just another case of natural black features being intolerated. (along with dark skin, big lips, wide noses, etc…which are so often disparaged in the media.) 😦 ~but, black girls with thick/course/coily hair should be encouraged to do their thing and rock their natural hair. ~ in the course of life, you will forget the dream…though it is the point of your existence ~ (drawing created on July 18, 2016) this drawing conveys that Sen. Bernie Sanders stood with marginalized people (during the ’15-’16 presidential race). In reality, he encouraged them to take part in the political process and make their voices heard, despite (or rather–because of) their marginalized status in their communities/society. the drawing depicts Sen. Sanders with supporters of his about to meet the corporate media, politicians who are part of the (powerful and stubborn) establishment, and corporate America (e.g., Wall Street people). the Senator is reassuring his supporters with; “Don’t worry, guys–we got this.” In the drawing, the Bernie Sanders supporters are each part of a marginalized/ignored/mistreated/disenfranchised group of people, in American society. — True unity, a common vision/dream, and love between a politician and his supporters is a rare and beautiful thing. That’s (part of) what makes the Sanders movement/revolution/cause so special.🙂 A quote (from blacklivesmatter.com (link) that I think really reflects the Sanders movement (I think Sen. Sanders has said a version of this quote, many times. The quote actually sounds *just* like him.): “There’s no reason for the establishment to fear me. But it has every right to fear the people collectively – I am one with the people.” (Huey P. Newton). -Here’s to standing with those who need justice, care, love, help. ~Good job, Sen. Bernie Sanders! Your legacy will be something beautiful…🙂🙂 (-ethar hamid)Description of piece: This drawing is conveying that police shootings are often influenced by (the police officers’) subconscious prejudice–that the shootings are largely due to the prejudices that certain officers might have towards people of color (as opposed to unbiased shootings, if you will–shootings that are not influenced by the color/race/appearance of the victims). The drawing is an exaggeration of that reality (expressing that such important institutions as the media, government, and schools assert that police shootings are “color-blind”–a “blessed miracle”)…but it is this exaggeration that (I hope) makes the viewer think about how elements of our society at times deny that police shootings can be influenced by prejudice and racism (which they certainly can be, no matter how subconscious those forces are, in those law enforcement officials). The drawing also depicts a man (a man of color, to be exact) thinking, in response to the media, government, and school conveyance; “but…” (As in: but, that doesn’t seem to be right/that seems untrue.” Again, the entire drawing (both aspects) is caricature-like, exaggerating the saying of societal institutions in regards to police shootings (and subduing many people’s reactions to it); but they ultimately reflect the situation in our world/country, today (I think..). The piece depicts the world’s view on police shootings (e.g., governments’ views, media views, and schools’ views) vs. people’s views–“regular people” who don’t have any hidden agendas–who don’t have any motive to propagate a message of how just and fair our society is.
In this drawing, the girl has a tattoo that says “Justice for Palestine.” (or, it could be henna, or ink (from a pen), or something, if tattoos aren’t your thing…. (hehe). Although; i think a tattoo is way more staunch in support of Palestine. 🙂 ~ I tried to depict the girl as non-Palestinian–I hope people see her as that (**though there are of course Palestinians with dark skin**). I wanted the girl to be seen as non-Palestinian because I wanted to stress that supporting the Palestinian cause (like freedom from oppression for Palestinians) is not** confined to Palestinians (of course)…Rather, it is a human and humane inclination. Just like supporting the rights of the southern Sudanese (who experience oppression by northerners in many ways) is a human problem-not a southern Sudanese one. I created this drawing during the summer, when I was 17 y/o. It was before I was receiving good treatment for my mental health condition, so I was actually suffering from delusions/psychotic symptoms, at the time of drawing this picture. This will forever be, to me, “that” picture–meaning the picture I drew when I was really sick. 😦 *****I hope anyone going through mental health problems can remember (or; find out) that things always get better, **regardless** of how bad they are, now. the severity of the situation, now doesn’t mean that in the future, life won’t be happy, for you (or for me). … (after rain, comes a rainbow).
Islamic-Themed Pieces ~
This drawing draws its inspiration from the Islamic belief of Allah’s eternal existence. Specifically, the belief that He never dies–He is All-Living (which goes hand-in-hand with the belief that He had no beginning). The drawing depicts dead flowers, and around some of the flowers are the Qur’anic/Islamic verses (written in Arabic); “rely upon the Living, Who never dies” (written right-hand side), and “Everything on the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor” (on the left-hand side). (While the flowers died, and while you and I will die, Allah s.w.t. never dies…). (the latter quote is from the Qur’an, 55:26-27).

((#Israeli soldiers are inhumane and inhuman.)) June 25, 2017. description of drawing: I like Sen. Sanders’ emphasis on ‘the people’. working class people, poor people, young people, minorities, etc. That’s why I tried to include several aspects of the idea of ‘the people,’ in this drawing. E.g.: the sign hanging on the wall says “We the People Will Rise” (a proclamation of unity, and determination against difficult odds). And: the three figures (who are listening to Sen. Sanders’ speech) are holding a banner that says: ‘Bernie Sanders–You are marching band, you are The People…You are a helping hand-you are a hero’. So again, the idea of people–the marginalized and mistreated majority of us–is present in the drawing (hopefully). *The words on the banner that the people in the audience are holding (“You are a marching band…”) are actually lyrics from the song “The World’s Greatest,” by R. Kelly. (The song is dedicated to the late boxing legend, Muhammad Ali.) The original lyrics of the song are ” I* am a marching band–I* am the people… I am a helping hand, I am a hero”. I just switched the ‘I’ pronoun to “You’, in order to address Sen. Sanders. I.e., I borrowed the words from the song and included them in my drawing. Both Muhammad Ali and Sen. ~another update, done on October 29, 2017 ~ **i took the words in the thought bubble from the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” by poet T.S. Eliot.** -I feel that this phrase/excerpt from the poem is really relatable to everyone; everyone has difficulty expressing themselves, sometimes. (The girl in the drawing definitely can relate to that, as well: she is actually crying out of frustration and sadness at not being able to articulate/express what she means. (She is talking to someone who is not visible, in the drawing.) **last thing: I have a hunch that this feeling (of not being able to articulate what you mean) is often more exaggerated in people with mental illnesses… Because: a lot of mental illnesses often cause cognitive difficulties in the sufferers, like difficulty in organizing thoughts…racing thoughts…and concentration issues. -I can personally completely attest to that: my schizoaffective disorder certainly hinders a lot of my cognition, I am pretty certain. 😣 But, at the same time, there is a kind of humor and lightness in all this as well, I think. Because: it’s like our thoughts are in limbo, kind of floating above us, but just not intelligible to anyone in the vicinity. It’s pathetic, but there’s some humor in there, as well. (Like: the person who you’re talking to in the conversation doesn’t know about your problem, when it comes to talking/articulating. -the whole scenario a bit funny, in that way. (Sad and pathetic, but funny.) 🤕-well ty so much for viewing this piece! I think I am almost done with it–just some more finishing touches, hopefully. Ty, 💜💜🦋-ethar
i remember my mom braiding my hair before the bus came to pick me up, for school (back in elementary:) i miss those days 😦 … 22 now, and the world seems so cold and cruel. 😦 (it was so rainbow-and-unicorny, back then.) ~also; here’s to all the little girls (black little girls) that wear their natural hair to school! i remember people used to make fun of my hair, actually. (used to call it ‘excessively poofy and frizzy and bushy,’ and all the rest.) these days, i heard there was a story in the media about a young girl getting in trouble (even suspended, I think?!) for wearing her natural hair to school (unbraided, no pony-tail or pig-tail…just “down,” as we say.) But, hold on! if all the other girls get to wear their* hair down, why couldn’t she? if u ask me, that was just another case of natural black features being intolerated. (along with dark skin, big lips, wide noses, etc…which are so often disparaged in the media.) 😦 ~but, black girls with thick/course/coily hair should be encouraged to do their thing and rock their natural hair. (they are beautiful, by the way! there is something about black little girls that is beautiful and magical…don’t u think? 🙂 ~ thank you for viewing, ethar h.

this drawing conveys that Sen. Bernie Sanders stood with marginalized people (during the ’15-’16 presidential race). In reality, he encouraged them to take part in the political process and make their voices heard, despite (or rather–because of) their marginalized status in their communities/society. the drawing depicts Sen. Sanders with supporters of his about to meet the corporate media, politicians who are part of the (powerful and stubborn) establishment, and corporate America (e.g., Wall Street people). the Senator is reassuring his supporters with; “Don’t worry, guys–we got this.” In the drawing, the Bernie Sanders supporters are each part of a marginalized/ignored/mistreated/disenfranchised group of people, in American society. — True unity, a common vision/dream, and love between a politician and his supporters is a rare and beautiful thing. That’s (part of) what makes the Sanders movement/revolution/cause so special.🙂 A quote (from blacklivesmatter.com (link) that I think really reflects the Sanders movement (I think Sen. Sanders has said a version of this quote, many times. The quote actually sounds *just* like him.): “There’s no reason for the establishment to fear me. But it has every right to fear the people collectively – I am one with the people.” (Huey P. Newton). -Here’s to standing with those who need justice, care, love, help. ~Good job, Sen. In this drawing, the girl has a tattoo that says “Justice for Palestine.” (or, it could be henna, or ink (from a pen), or something, if tattoos aren’t your thing…. (hehe). Although; i think a tattoo is way more staunch in support of Palestine. 🙂 ~ I tried to depict the girl as non-Palestinian–I hope people see her as that (**though there are of course Palestinians with dark skin**). I wanted the girl to be seen as non-Palestinian because I wanted to stress that supporting the Palestinian cause (like freedom from oppression for Palestinians) is not** confined to Palestinians (of course)…Rather, it is a human and humane inclination. Just like supporting the rights of the southern Sudanese (who experience oppression by northerners in many ways) is a human problem-not a southern Sudanese one. And like how supporting the human rights of African Americans (who are a target of such evils as prejudice and discrimination, police brutality, and other forms of racism/oppression) should be a stance of every single person in the world. #one human family #if one limb is hurting, the entire body aches (Islamic hadith) #end to oppression of Palestinians thank you for viewing, -ethar hamid

This Arabic word (of which the transliteration to English would be “as-Salaam”) means “peace.” In Islamic culture, the word “as-Salaam” can refer to Allah s.w.t., as He is believed to be the Source of Peace..This latter definition is the one I had in mind, in creating this picture.
